Exclusive Preview: Avengers #3 Sends the Team Against the Dark Celestials

A new era has begun for Marvel’s Avengers in their recently relaunched ongoing series. Writer Jason Aaron and artist Ed McGuinness have reunited Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor on the same team for the first time in years, while adding Black Panther, Captain Marvel, She-Hulk, Doctor Strange, and Ghost Rider to the lineup. For their first unofficial mission, the team has to save the Earth again. No big deal…except it’s raining dead space gods and the Final Host of Dark Celestials have arrived to annihilate the world. So, no pressure!

In ComingSoon’s exclusive preview for Avengers #3, Aaron and McGuinness are joined by guest artist Paco Medina as the current Ghost Rider, Robbie Reyes, gets a baptism by fire while teaming up with the She-Hulk. Jennifer Walters just hasn’t been the same since Civil War II, and now she transforms into a Hulk that doesn’t share her intelligence or personality. That means she can turn on her allies on a moment’s notice, and she’s never met Robbie before…which means she has less incentive to hold back.

And who is responsible for this apocalyptic mess? Why Loki, of course. Thor’s brother is seemingly up to his old tricks again, but even Loki may not be the only one to blame. Eons ago, Odin led his own team of Avengers into battle against a mad Celestial. Now, the sins of that team have been revisited upon their modern day counterparts.

Here’s the official description from Marvel: “Fate has once again brought together Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to face their greatest challenge yet. But with Captain America now taken prisoner by Loki, what hope do these new Avengers have to defeat the Final Host of Dark Celestials? And what startling secrets are still left to be uncovered that will rewrite everything we know about the origin of the Marvel Universe?”

You can read the full exclusive preview in our gallery below. Avengers #3 will be released on Wednesday, June 20.
