Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 7 - Transformation Review

Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 7 – Transformation Review

After last week’s bombastic Demon Slayer episode, “Transformation” feels like a brief step back. Building off the cliffhanger of the previous episode, Nezuko has awakened as a demon and takes Tanjiro’s place in the battle with Daki.

It’s a ton of fun to see Nezuko absolutely wreck the villain, even if the battle is a little short-lived. Despite Nezuko’s strength here demon tendencies start to take the better of her, and most of the rest of the episode focuses on Tanjiro trying to stop here from devouring humans. The problem I have here is that we, once again, see Tanjrio and Nezuko’s family talking to them, as a way to “overcome” the current problem. While the sibling’s memory of their family is always emotional, it’s starting to feel like the show has an over-reliance on using that as a plot device.

The second half of the episode fares a bit better than the first, as Uzui finally arrives to help Tanjiro. It only took, what, four episodes?

This is where the big twist of the Entertainment District arc arrives, as the group finds out Daki isn’t actually the biggest threat. Instead of vanishing when Uzui decapitates her, a sickly-looking brother morphs out of Daki’s body, and it’s clear he’s not going to be a pushover.

The new villain, Gyutaro, uses attacks that morph his own blood into blades, and the animation for this looks as disgusting as it does impressive. Gyutaro is already interesting honestly, as in many ways he feels like the antithesis of the “flashy” Uzui, and it’s going to be fun to see how that plays out.

While “Transformation” may not measure up to the lofty heights of the previous episodes, there are bound to be ups and downs in a show like this. Gyutaro is introduced well, and the next episode promises to finally show Uzui fully in action.

SCORE: 7/10

As ComingSoon’s review policy explains, a score of 7 equates to “Good.” A successful piece of entertainment that is worth checking out, but it may not appeal to everyone.
