Solo Leveling: Is Sung Jinwoo a Necromancer?

The final episode of Solo Leveling Season 1 ended with the most iconic phrase from the series, “Arise.” This was the title of the final episode, which mainly focused on the protagonist’s battle against Igris. This was a highly anticipated part as Jinwoo acquired new powers.

As the epic finale progresses, we see Jinwoo defeating the Blood Red Commander. However, the Job Change Quest continues. He faces another wave of enemies controlled by a mage. Jinwoo is worn out from his battle against Igris but barely manages to defeat the dungeon.

He unlocked a new class and got promoted from a Necromancer to the Monarch of Shadows. However, what does being a Necromancer mean in Solo Leveling?

As evident from the conclusion of the first season of Solo Leveling, being a Necromancer is related to the Monarch of Shadows. Necromancy is the power to create or manipulate entire armies of walking corpses. Jinwoo uses the phrase “Arise” to activate his powers.

He can only manipulate those who are weaker than him. Anyone stronger than him is basically free from the effects of Necromancy. This is a rare class, but Jinwoo’s wit and abilities make it genuinely overwhelming. As he can level up infinitely, Jinwoo can basically turn anyone into his walking corpse and add them to their armies.

Jinwoo is the successor of the Monarch of Shadows, as he inherited his powers from Ashborn, the King of the Dead. He is the strongest hunter of humanity, which is ironic as he is shown to be the weakest hunter to ever exist at the start of the series.

Ashborn lived centuries ago and was terribly injured during a war. He was fighting for the Absolute Being, who is basically the god of their world. This was the reason he was bestowed upon with powers that turned him into the Shadow Monarch. As he was mighty, he lost a sense of belonging in the universe. He wanted a human vessel. A mage named Kandiaru made it possible for him. The System that is shown in the first episode was designed by this mage. The sole purpose of The System was to find a vessel for Ashborn.
