On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, the official website and Twitter account of the Wind Breaker anime revealed its release date after a promotional livestream. The video also showed the anime’s release date, additional cast members, and a stunning new key visual.
Satoru Nii’s famous manga launched in 2021 with Kodansha’s Pocket app. Since then, Kodansha has published the manga’s 15th compiled book volume, with the 16th scheduled for release on Friday.
Wind Breaker Anime: Everything you need to know
The highly anticipated anime will be part of the Spring 2024 lineup. The series will be released on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 12:26 a.m. JST. Reportedly, Natori will perform the opening song, “Zettai Reido,” while Young Kee will perform the ending song, “Muteki.”
The announcement also revealed three additional cast members. Among these include Ikumi Hasegawa, who is set to star as Kotoha Tachibana. Joining him will be Kengo Kasai and Toshiyuki Toyonaga, who will star as Taiga Tsuura and Miki Kiryu, respectively.
Previously announced cast members include Yūma Uchida as Haruka Sakura and Kōki Uchiyama as Kyо̄tarо̄ Sugishita. Nobunaga Shimazaki as Hayato Suо̄, Yūichi Nakamura as Hajime Umemiya, and Ryōta Suzuki as Tōma Hiragi.
As for the staff members, Toshifumi Akai is directing the series at Cloverworks. Hiroshi Seko handles the series composition, while Taishi Kawakami handles character design. Lastly, Ryō Takahashi has been credited as the music composer.
Kodansha USA Publishing, which has been responsible for releasing the manga in English, describes the series as: “Haruka Sakura wants nothing to do with weaklings—he’s only interested in the strongest of the strong. He’s from Fuurin High School, a school of near-dropout degenerates known only for their brawling strength. And in a town known for its territorial disputes, Haruka’s got only one goal—to become the hero his town deserves.”
