The finale of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 added much tension and suspense to the narrative. Among other highlights, fans witnessed the comeback of Yuta Okkotsu, who first appeared in Jujutsu Kaisen 0. While his recent appearance in season 2 brought back hope and excitement for viewers after the tragic Shibuya Incident arc, he now agrees with the jujutsu higher-up’s decision to kill Yuji Itadori. However, the question that baffles Jujutsu Kaisen fans is: Why did Yuta want to kill Yuji?
The battle between Yuta Okkotsu and Yuji Itadori will be revealed in Jujutsu Kaisen season 3. Although Yuta supposedly shows determination to kill Itadori, the truth is that he wants to protect him. In reality, Yuta is bound by Gojo to protect Yuji Itadori. Hence, his willingness to kill Yuji is merely a facade.
Why does Yuta want to kill Yuji?
Yuta Okkotsu does not want to kill Yuji Itadori. As manga readers would know, the showdown between the two unfolds in the aftermath of the Shibuya Incident arc. Yuji, now an excommunicated sorcerer, comes face-to-face with Yuta, his designated executioner. The Jujutsu Headquarters assigns Yuta to this task, and he shows up with his eerie energy to confront Yuji and his accomplices. Moreover, he displays his disquieting might, surprising fans as well as the characters in the narrative.
However, he keeps up with his word and only fakes Yuki’s death. He fatally stabs Yuji and upholds a Binding Vow. Ultimately, he manages to trick the jujutsu authorities into believing that Yuji has finally succumbed to death and that the task is successful. But Yuta later uses his Reversed Cursed Technique to heal Yuji.
So, by proving that Yuji is dead, he protects him from the grave danger that surrounds him. Yuta Okkotsu risks going against the jujutsu higher-ups and commits to his promise to Gojo, thereby safeguarding Yuji. Though this puts Yuta’s reputation as a loyal sorcerer at stake, his loyalty to Gojo seems to matter to him more.
