Taking to the official Uzumaki anime Twitter account, director Hiroshi Nagahama confirmed that the series — which was set to premiere sometime in October 2022 — would be pushed back yet again, with the reason given being “in order to replicate the quality of the intricate designs and detailed line work” of Ito’s classic story.

“Unfortunately, the premiere of the series must again be delayed,” reads part of the statement. “In order to replicate the quality of the intricate designs and detailed line work of Mr. Ito’s classic manga, Director Hiroshi Nagahama and the production team have asked for additional time to recreate Ito’s masterpiece properly. As much as we’d like to deliver this show to the public as soon as possible, we don’t want to compromise its quality by delivering a mediocre final product.”

The statement did note that they would return next with a firm premiere date, and apologized again for the delay. The Uzumaki anime was originally announced three years ago in 2019, and has already gone through a handful of delays. However, due to the popularity and quality of Ito’s work, fans likely won’t be too mad that Adult Swim is taking its time to deliver the best version of the story they can.

The Uzumaki manga series is made up of three volumes that were first published in 1998. It follows the story of high school student Kirie Goshima, who lives in the cursed town of Kurôzu-cho which is described as a small fogbound town located on the coast of Japan.
