Dragon Ball Super & One Piece Celebrate Annecy’s 60th With New Videos

This year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival marks its 60th anniversary. In celebration of the momentous milestone, Toei Animation released two videos featuring Dragon Ball Super and One Piece characters commemorating the occasion.

The videos, which you can find below, are very brief; the One Piece video is only 17 seconds, while the Dragon Ball Super video is 24 seconds. Each showcases its beloved cast of characters, like Luffy and Goku, in their latest designs.

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival began in 1960. Taking place in Annecy, France, the show initially occurred every two years. It became an annual festival in 1998. While the two shows featured in the short videos are anime, the festival showcases animated films of all varieties.

First established in 1948 as Japan Animated Films, Toei Animation is one of the most well-known Japanese animation studios. Mostly known for its work on the Dragon Ball and One Piece franchises, the studio has also produced a plethora of anime television series and films, including Mazinger Z, Dr. Slump, Sailor Moon, and Digimon.

One Piece began as a manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda back in 1997. It is serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump and is still ongoing. The Toei Animation produced anime first aired in Japan in 1999 and has over 900 episodes. There are a total of 14 feature films for the franchise.

Dragon Ball began as a manga written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama and was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1984 to 1995. The Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z anime series were originally broadcast in Japan from 1986 to 1996. Dragon Ball Super is the latest iteration of the anime television series.
