Udo Kier Joins Nymphomaniac

Udo Kier is the latest name to join the cast of Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac. Variety has the news, also confirming Willem Dafoe’s long-rumored involvement.

Currently shooting in and around Cologne, Germany, Nymphomaniac‘s cast also includes Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard, Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Stacy Martin, Connie Nielsen, Christian Slater and Uma Thurman.

Nymphomaniac tells the wild and poetic story of a woman’s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Gainsbourg).

On a cold winter’s evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman (Skarsgard), finds Joe beaten up in an alleyway. He brings her home to his flat where he tends to her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-out and multi faceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.

Kier, a frequent von Trier collaborator, starred in early von Trier efforts like Medea and Europa as well as, more recently, Melancholia. Dafoe, too, has worked with the auteur director on multiple projects, including the recent Antichrist and Manderlay.

The film is expected to be released in both soft and hardcore versions in 2013.
