Ready Player One’s Zak Penn to Adapt ROM: Spaceknight

Deadline reports today that Zak Penn has signed onto adapt ROM for Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures and Paramount Pictures. Allspark Pictures develops and produces live-action entertainment around Hasbro brands and related projects.

Short for Read-only memory, ROM originated as a toy and then the comic ROM: Spaceknight. Hailing from a utopian society on the planet Galador, ROM is a cyborg who, after defeating the invading Dire Wraith on its planet, continues the battle on Earth and other planets.

Penn’s recent project, Ready Player One, is set to be released on Wednesday by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Zak Penn is most known for his work in adapting comic book and science fiction stories for the big screen. He has always been a huge fan of ROM. Hasbro has been playing with the idea of adapting the comic for awhile now.

Penn has written scripts for numerous Marvel Comics movies, including X-Men 2, X-Men: The Last Stand, Elektra, The Incredible Hulk, and The Avengers. He is also currently working on the Syfy original series Alphas as a co-creator alongside Michael Karnow.

Penn is currently working on a script for Warner Bros that is set in The Matrix universe.
