Sideways & Elektra Off to Good Start

Sideways, which earned $70 million at the box office, sold more than 1.5 million combined DVD and VHS units Tuesday. The Fox Searchlight film is on track to sell about 3.5 million combined units.

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s Elektra sold about 1 million combined DVD and VHS units Tuesday, also its first day in release on home video. It translates to another successful showing for a title with a box office of less than $25 million.

Disney/Pixar’s $261.3 million box office hit The Incredibles has sold more than 14 million combined units since its release March 15, keeping it atop both DVD and VHS Nielsen VideoScan sales charts. The film already has become one of the best rental titles of the year, generating about $25 million in gross consumer rental spending during its first 12 days in release.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s Closer debuted as the second-best-selling DVD for the week ending April 3, followed by New Line Home Entertainment’s After the Sunset, which debuted as the third-best-selling DVD during the same frame.
