Traitor of Mars: Watch the Animated Starship Troopers Sequel Trailer

Check out the trailer for Traitor of Mars, a new, animated Starship Troopers sequel

While Paul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers may be a very loose adaptation of Robert Heinlein original sci-fi tale, the 1997 film has nevertheless become a bona fide classic all its own for its satirical look at fascism, framed against a spectacle-laden intergalactic war. The Starship Troopers sequels, however, have a more inauspicious history, having gone direct to home video domestically. Now, a fifth feature length entry in the franchise is on the way with the animated Starship Troopers movie, Traitor of Mars. You can check out the trailer in the player below and find two stills from the film in the gallery viewer at the bottom of this page.

In Traitor of Mars, Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien) has just been demoted and sent to a small satellite station on Mars whilst the Federation attacks the bugs’ home planet. While trying to train his new recruits on this remote quiet station, the bugs show up in a surprise attack but the Federation’s Fleet is too far away to help. It’s up to Rico and his Troopers to save the planet and uncover how the bugs made it so close to home.

Dina Meyer also return as the voice Dizzy Flores alongside comedian and Starship Troopers super fan DeRay Davis. What’s more, the animated Starship Troopers movie features a script from the original film’s writer, Ed Neumeier.

Although Casper Van Dien did not return for the first sequel, 2004’s Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation, he did reprise the Johnny Rico role for Starship Troopers 3: Marauder in 2008 before serving as executive producer on 2012’s fourth franchise entry, Starship Troopers: Invasion.

The animated Starship Troopers film will make it to the big screen for one night only via Fathom Events.
