The week kicks off with director Gavin O’Connor’s clever actioner The Accountant, starring Ben Affleck. There’s also Nate Parker’s Nat Turner biopic The Birth of a Nation, the true disaster tale Deepwater Horizon, the family superhero adventure Max Steel, and the stand-up comedy feature Kevin Hart: What Now?
January 10 also sees a Blu-ray re-release of the original xXx, arriving just in time for next week’s big-screen sequel. Then, on DVD only, we’ve got the family films Apple of My Eye and Lost and Found. You can take a behind-the-scenes look at the latter in the player at the bottom of this page.
The Criterion Collection this week inducts another Howard Hawks classic with the arrival of His Girl Friday. The disc is packed with features and even includes Lewis Milestone’s 1931 take on the story, The Front Page, with a 4K restoration all its own.
Warner Archive this week brings to Blu-ray William A. Wellman’s 1949 Battle of the Bulge feature Battleground. They’ve also got a double feature for Judy Garland fans with both The Harvey Girls (1946) and In the Good Old Summertime (1949) and releases for director Jack Conway’s 1936 Libeled Lady and Daniel Mann’s 1955 I’ll Cry Tomorrow.
Shout Factory‘s Scream Factory gives the HD treatment to another cult classic as Mary Steenburgen and Roddy McDowell headline the 1987 thriller Dead of Winter.
Other interesting feature titles arriving January 10 include the recent German historical thriller The People vs. Fritz Bauer, and, coming to Blu-ray for the first time, Sylvain Chomet’s beloved 2003 animated musical The Triplets of Belleville.
Small-screen titles coming home January 10 include, on Blu-ray and DVD, the second season of USA Network’s Mr. Robot and the fifth season of Showtime‘s Homeland. Available on DVD only is the first season of National Geographic Channel‘s The Story of God with Morgan Freeman, the third season of Comedy Central‘s Broad City, the seventh season of History‘s Swamp People, and a complete series box set that contains all four seasons Star Trek: Enterprise.
Also arriving January 10 is The Lion Guard: Life in the Pride Lands, collecting five episodes of the Disney Channel series.
Digital HD titles hitting January 10 include Christine, which stars Rebecca Hall as Christine Chubbuck, a news reporter who, in the 1970s, killed herself during a live broadcast. Other key titles arriving this week include the comedy Keeping Up with the Joneses, the surprisingly scary and fun Ouija: Origin of Evil, the re-release of Disney’s vaulted Pinocchio, and Queen of Katwe, the recent chess biopic starring David Oyelowo and Lupita Nyong’o.
