Sir Elton John in Talks to Join Kingsman: The Golden Circle

You may have checked the calendar just now, but this is no April Fools’ joke. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that musician Sir Elton John is in talks for a role in the upcoming Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Who he might play, be it a character or himself, remains to be seen.

A six time Grammy Award winner, Elton John has also won the Academy Award and Golden Globe Best Original Song for The Lion King‘s “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” along with the Tony for Best Original Score for Aida. John’s acting credits are few and far between, most of which are appearances as himself, including The Simpsons and Spice World, though he did appear as The Pinball Wizard in Tommy.

Should John’s deal close, he’ll join a cast that includes Taron Egerton as Eggsy with Halle Berry appearing as the head of the CIA, Pedro Pascal as a character conveniently named “Jack Daniels,” and Julianne Moore in talks to play the film’s central villain. Edward Holcroft is also set to appear in the film, though whether he will reprise as his character from the first is unclear. Mark Strong will reprise his role as Merlin, with the first teaser poster for the film revealing that Colin Firth’s Harry Hart will also return.

Matthew Vaughn returns to write and direct the film, which sees Eggsy heading to the United States where he’ll meet his match in a “swaggering, sharpshooting cowboy.”

20th Century Fox has set a June 16, 2017 release date for Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
