Reese Witherspoon Unleashes Her Inner Jordan Belfort in ‘Opening Belle’

Oscar Wilde once said, “When I was young I thought that money was the most important thing in life; now that I am old I know that it is.” And while, ironically, The Wolf of Wall Street didn’t make a ton of money (it still did pretty good all things considered), it got other people interested in pursuing the tales of the money train, or at least one: Reese Witherspoon. The Wild star and producer is now set to star and produce the Wall Street comedy Opening Belle.

Based on Maureen Sherry Klinsky‘s upcoming book of the same name — which is also loosely inspired from the author’s experiences as a managing director at Bear Stearns — the movie is a comedy where a mother must juggle her family responses with a career on Wall Street in 2007. Alright, so maybe it won’t be the hard-R rated film Martin Scorsese made, and chances are it won’t get the Academy acclaim that movie received. But busy mothers sometimes want to get in on the Wall Street fun every once in a while, you know.

Witherspoon, alongside producing partner Bruna Papandrea, houses the movie under her Pacific Standard banner, with Jeanne Snow to oversee for them. This is just one they have in the works at the moment, for in addition to working on the awful Hot Pursuit, they’re also developing other novel-to-film adaptations at the moment, including Luckiest Girl Alive for Lionsgate, Ashley’s War for 20th Century Fox and Second Life for Warner Bros.

While it’s easy to get worried about this knowing it’s from the team who brought together this summer’s worst comedy so far, keep in mind Witherspoon and Papandrea also produced last year’s Variety]
