New Trailer for ‘Jupiter Ascending’ Pretty Much What You’d Expect

Warner Bros. has premiered a new international trailer for Andy and Lana Wachowski’s Jupiter Ascending, in order to get a jump on promoting the film’s February 6, 2015 release.

Back in June, you’ll recall Warner pulled the plug on the film’s July 18 release date, supposedly so the Wachowskis could finish effects work on the sci-fi epic, although it seems more likely in my mind, the move was a financial one, with Warner keen on wreaking havoc at the box office during the early-year doldrums.

I’d love to see the Wachowskis churn out something great here, but when Warner still insists solely on using the The Matrix Trilogy to help sell the directing duo’s films, I have to say I get a little disheartened. And with the film releasing so early in the year, well, you have to wonder if that’s any indication of its quality.

Jupiter Ascending stars Mila Kunis as Jupiter Jones, a destitute young woman tracked down by a genetically engineered ex-military hunter (Channing Tatum) because her genetic signature marks her as someone destined to do great things that could alter the balance of the cosmos. The cast also includes Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything), Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy), Douglas Booth (Noah), Doona Bae (Cloud Atlas), James D’Arcy (Hitchcock), and more.

I’m not entirely sure what to make of this new trailer, as my interest level in Jupiter Ascending has been waning over the last few months. The trailer is pretty much what you’d expect, very effects heavy, focusing more on the world the Wachowskis have built and the dazzling production design than anything else, though we do get a little exposition, so let’s hope there’s an interesting story behind it all as well. For now, check out the trailer below and see what you think.
