Red Band Trailer for So-So Zombie Sci-Fi Film ‘Last Days on Mars’

I caught Ruairi Robinson‘s Last Days on Mars at Cannes earlier this year and in my “C+” review called it “a story far from unique, but in the ‘midnight movie’ kind of way it tends to satisfy just enough for On Demand consideration.”

Starring Liev Schreiber, Romola Garai, Olivia Williams, Elias Koteas and Goran Kostic, the film is, for lack of a better description, a Mars-set zombie movie with an attempt to hint at such similarly themed horror classics as Romero’s Dead franchise, the Alien films and The Thing.

I had a decent enough time with it and when it hits VOD on Halloween you may want to give it a peek, but I don’t think it’s worth a trip to the theater once it hits limited release in early December.

Unwilling to let the relief crew claim all the glory he disobeys orders to pack up and goes out on an unauthorized expedition to collect further samples. But a routine excavation turns to disaster when the porous ground collapses and he falls into a deep crevice and near certain death. His devastated colleagues attempt to recover his body. However, when another vanishes they start to suspect that the life form they have discovered is not yet dead. As the group begins to fall apart it seems their only hope is the imminent arrival of the relief ship Aurora…
