First Picture of Steve Carell in ‘Foxcatcher’

Sony Classics has released the first look at Steve Carell in Bennett Miller‘s Foxcather, which only recently received a December 20 release date once Columbia decided to hand it over to their specialty wing.

The film is based on the true story with a screenplay by E. Max Frye (Something Wild) and Dan Futterman (Capote) telling the story of Olympic Wrestling Champion brothers Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) and Dave Schultz (Mark Ruffalo) and their relationship with the eccentric John du Pont (Carell), heir to the du Pont Chemical fortune that led to murder.

The pic comes from EW where Miller said, “We just had our first test [screening], and not everybody recognized Steve. He is aged [for the film], and his face is changed, and his physicality changed,… If I say I’m going to make a movie about a guy who’s a schizophrenic murderer, there are probably a dozen actors who would immediately appear on anybody’s casting list. And Steve would not be on any of those lists. And that’s a good thing. Because it’s unexpected…”

I have an updated look at the Oscar predictions for Best Actor coming right around the corner and right now there is no guaranteeing where exactly these fellas will be campaigning as right now I have both Tatum and Carell in lead with Ruffalo in supporting, but I have a feeling Tatum may swing over to supporting as well. We’ll see once someone actually sees the film.
