Watch: First ‘Star Trek 2’ Trailer

Paramount is really getting used to releasing their wares late at night as the first trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness arrives this morning at midnight. Being referred to as an “Announcement Trailer”, this first trailer, which runs just over one minute long, will be followed on December 14 with a full-length trailer in theaters and in front of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The trailer will then arrive online on Monday, December 17.

Back for this sequel to the 2009 feature are director J.J. Abrams and cast, which includes Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Simon Pegg and Karl Urban. Among the newcomers you have Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve, Peter Weller and Noel Clarke.

Here’s the synopsis:

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man (Benedict Cumberbatch) weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Star Trek Into Darkness hits theaters on May 17, 2013. Check out this first trailer directly below and directly below that is the Japanese version, which runs 12 seconds longer.
