‘Burning Plain’ Poster and Trailer

Earlier today, the poster for The Burning Plain debuted at Collider.com and now the trailer for Guillermo Arriaga’s (21 Grams, Babel) latest film of sadness and despair has come online to depress us until we lost all faith in humanity.

The film debuted at the Venice Film Festival last year to a mild bit of buzz, but then faded fast only to end up in the hands of Magnolia Pictures for an upcoming limited release on September 18. Starring Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger and centers on two storylines taking place in the past and present. Basinger plays Gina, the mother of Theron’s character as seen in childhood. Theron plays Sylvia, who tries to find common ground with her parents after a turbulent childhood. The two narratives eventually converge.

I haven’t heard many good words about the film since I recapped some of the coverage out of Venice back in August ’08, but I did just get my press invite for a screening earlier today so I’ll see how good (or bad) it is on August 4.

For now, watch the trailer below and see what you think or check it out in high definition at Yahoo.
