Rob Cohen Blogs About ‘The Mummy 3’

Rob Cohen has started a little blog while he is in Montreal directing The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, a.k.a. The Mummy 3, a.k.a. The Mummy Movie Rachel Weisz Turned Down.

His first update from the set is more or less a synopsis breakdown and an introduction on who is starring in the movie and who he is working with to put it all together. Personally I want this to be a good movie, but the mere fact that Weisz decided not to return to the franchise as Evelyn has my seriously worried about its quality. Not to mention the fact that we have Rob Cohen directing. Not that I think Cohen is terrible, but this just doesn’t seem like his kind of a movie.

Cohen’s Stealth was absolutely terrible, but I don’t mind xXx or The Fast and the Furious, and while The Mummy franchise is action it isn’t the same kind of action. Granted Stephen Sommers is a shitty director too and while the first two Mummy movies are personal guilty pleasures of mine Van Helsing proved to us that Sommers sort of lucked out with the Mummy flicks.

As for Cohen’s post the most interesting piece is this:

The family is reunited and high adventure ensues: crash landings, treks thru the Himalayas, Yeti, avalanches (bigger than the one I did in “XXX”), Shangri-la, three-headed dragons, pools of eternal life, epic battles, a shape-shifting Jet Li….I could go on but I don’t want to give it all away.

None of that surprises me, I expected just about everything he said, I just hope it all works in a cohesive story because it would be nice to add one more guilty pleasure to my list.
