58 Countries Vying for 2005 Foreign Language Oscar

Last year I had at least heard of some of the contenders for the Foreign Film Oscar, but this year a lot of these titles are new to me, but that just gives me more to look forward to as I can just feel Oscar season creeping up on us, which is always a good thing!

This year, a record fifty-eight countries from four continents, including new entrants Costa Rica, Fiji and Iraq, have submitted films for consideration in the Foreign Language Film Award category, Academy President Sid Ganis announced today.

The 2005 submissions are:

The 78th Academy Award nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 31, 2006, at 5:30 a.m. PST, in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Last year’s winning film was The Sea Inside.
