Released in 2018, Pacific Rim: Uprising followed the success of Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim and introduced a new generation of heroes facing another massive threat. The movie remains a familiar pick with its mix of giant robots, huge monsters, and strong action.
Steven S. DeKnight directed the movie, and the story follows Jake Pentecost, played by John Boyega, the son of legendary Jaeger pilot Stacker Pentecost. As a dangerous new enemy emerges, Jake joins a new team of Jaeger pilots to protect Earth and continue the fight against the giant Kaiju.
The sequel features Cailee Spaeny and Adria Arjona, along with Boyega and Eastwood. Jing Tian and Zhang Jin also appear in key roles. While Guillermo del Toro did not return as director, he stayed on as a producer, with DeKnight taking over the franchise’s second chapter.

“Pacific Rim: Uprising won’t win any points for subtlety or originality, but it delivers enough of the rock ’em-sock ’em robots-vs.-kaiju thrills that fans of the original will be looking for,” the site’s consensus says.
The movie earned about $291 million worldwide after a strong run in China, where it collected around $100 million. However, it struggled in several other markets despite carrying a reported production budget of more than $150 million.
With giant robots, huge monster battles, and plenty of action, the film offers an entertaining watch for anyone who enjoys big sci-fi adventures. HBO has given fans the perfect opportunity to experience the action-packed adventure again just in time for the weekend.
