Warner Bros. has released the first full trailer for Tom Cruise’s new comedy Digger. The upcoming film from director Alejandro G. Iñárritu will see Cruise in one of his most unconventional roles yet.
The film’s short yet cryptic synopsis reads, “The most powerful man in the world embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”

What happens in the Digger trailer?
The trailer doesn’t waste time revealing Cruise’s wild new look as the titular Digger Rockwell, an old but powerful man, with a dying cat. Digger reflects on his own mortality as he caresses his cat, who has less than two weeks to live. The next scene shows Digger talking to one of his employees stationed at an ice glacier that is showing signs of shifting considerably, which will cause a catastrophe.
At a board meeting, it is estimated that the catastrophe would cause a loss upwards of $18 trillion, along with spreading nuclear radiation. The responsibility to save the world falls squarely on Digger, who decides to “control the narrative” about the impending disaster. The final scene shows Digger and the U.S. President aboard an airship dropping what appears to be a nuclear bomb on the glacier.
Alongside Cruise, Digger stars Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Jesse Plemons. The extended cast includes Robert John Burke, Emma D’Arcy, Burn Gorman, and Sophie Wilde.
Iñárritu directs the film from a screenplay co-written by him, Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolás Giacobone, and Sabina Berman. Iñárritu, Mary Parent, Cruise, and Michael Sharp produce the film. Joshua Grode, Berman, Dinelaris, Giacobone, Jez Butterworth, and Emmanuel Lubezki serve as executive producers.
Digger opens in North American theaters on October 2, 2026, and will open in international territories beginning September 30, 2026.
