Tom Cruise’s Digger Footage Revealed With New Trailer Release Date

Tom Cruise just dropped a mysterious new look at one of his most unexpected roles yet. The actor revealed fresh footage from his upcoming film Digger alongside a date for the new trailer release.

Tom Cruise’s Digger gets new footage ahead of new trailer

Cruise shared new footage from his upcoming movie, Digger, on Instagram. The actor posted a brief clip. He captioned the post with the tagline “Digg. Or Die.”

The new footage arrives ahead of a full trailer set to drop on July 13. Warner Bros. previously attached a 30-second clip from the film to a three-minute Tom Cruise career retrospective. That retrospective played before screenings of the re-released Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick starting on May 13.

Alejandro G. Inarritu directs the satirical black comedy, marking another English-language project after 2015’s The Revenant. Reportedly, the pair first began discussing the project back in 2019 while Cruise was filming Top Gun: Maverick. Inarritu co-wrote the screenplay with Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, and Sabina Berman.

According to the premise, the film follows a powerful man racing to prove he is humanity’s savior before disaster strikes. The catastrophe stems from the consequences of his own actions. Cruise plays the lead character, Digger Rockwell, in what Inarritu has described as a “wild comedy of catastrophic proportions” (via Deadline).

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Lubezki serves as cinematographer on the project. The ensemble cast also includes Sandra Huller, Jesse Plemons, John Goodman, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Emma D’Arcy, and Michael Stuhlbarg. Additionally, Goodman plays the President of the United States in the film.

Principal photography took place at Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom over six months. Production happened under the working title Judy, and ultimately wrapped in May last year. Industrial Light & Magic and Legacy Effects handle visual effects for the $125 million production.

Digger opens in theaters on October 2, 2026.
