Hulu Adds Blake Lively And Alec Baldwin’s Gritty Road Drama Movie Today

A road drama starring Blake Lively and Alec Baldwin lands on Hulu today. The film arrives on the streamer ahead of the 15th anniversary of its world premiere.

What is the Blake Lively and Alec Baldwin movie about?

Titled Hick, the road drama follows a Nebraskan teenager and the events that unfold after she runs away from her neglectful parents and sets out for Las Vegas. Directed by Derick Martini (Lymelife), the film is an adaptation of the critically acclaimed Andrea Portes novel of the same name.

Produced by Stone River Productions, Lighthouse Entertainment, and Taylor Lane Productions, the official synopsis of Hick reads, “Small town teenager Luli escapes en route to Las Vegas, leaving behind her alcoholic and abusive parents. Armed with her smarts, a pistol, and pocket money, she hitchhikes her way west. Along the way, Luli crosses paths with Eddie, an unstable rebel with questionable motives, and Glenda, a cocaine-snorting drifter on the run.”

Portes served as the screenwriter for Hick, and although the novel was a bestseller, the adaptation received almost universally negative reviews. The film holds a 5% rating (based on 22 reviews) on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics’ consensus reads, “Hick’s talented young star is ill served by a film whose story wavers between discomfitingly inappropriate and simply muddled.”

Hick had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2011. It was then released in the United States on video-on-demand on May 8, 2012, following which it had a limited release in select theaters on May 11, 2012. Apart from Lively and Baldwin, the film also stars Chloë Grace Moretz, Eddie Redmayne, Juliette Lewis, Rory Culkin, Ray McKinnon, Anson Mount, Robert Baker, Robert J. Stephenson, Shaun Sipos, Leon Lemar, Dartanian Sloan, and David Allen Vescio in key roles.
