Despite Struggles, Disclosure Day Puts Steven Spielberg in Rare Box Office Club at 79

Steven Spielberg has reached another box office milestone with Disclosure Day. Although the sci-fi thriller has faced setbacks at the global box office, it has surpassed the $100 million mark at the domestic box office. The achievement places the 79-year-old filmmaker among a small group of directors over the age of 75 to direct a $100 million domestic hit.

Steven Spielberg quietly scores his 16th $100 million movie at domestic box office

Disclosure Day has delivered another box office milestone for Steven Spielberg. According to Box Office Mojo, the sci-fi thriller has crossed $100 million at the domestic box office, becoming the 16th film of Spielberg’s career to reach the benchmark.

This new box office achievement puts the 79-year-old filmmaker in rare company, as it makes him one of only four directors over the age of 75 to direct a movie that has earned at least $100 million in North America.

The film has earned approximately $105 million from domestic theaters and another $111 million internationally, taking its worldwide total to around $216 million. While those figures represent a significant theatrical milestone, the film has not yet reached the level needed to recover its reported production costs. Made on a reported $115 million budget, Disclosure Day is estimated to require between $287 million and $300 million in worldwide ticket sales to break even.

Directed by Spielberg from a screenplay by David Koepp, Disclosure Day opened in US theaters on June 12, 2026. The story follows a meteorologist and a cybersecurity expert who uncover evidence of a government cover-up involving extraterrestrial life.

The movie’s cast is led by Emily Blunt as Margaret Fairchild and Josh O’Connor as Dr. Daniel Kellner. They are joined by Colin Firth as Noah Scanlon, Eve Hewson as Jane Blankenship, Colman Domingo as Hugo Wakefield, and Wyatt Russell as Jackson, among others.

Although Disclosure Day has faced financial challenges, it has performed well with critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an 80 percent critics’ score based on 406 reviews.
