Paranormal Activity 8 Casting Update Sees The Social Reckoning Star Join Horror Movie

Paranormal Activity 8 has added an actor from The Social Reckoning as part of its cast. The upcoming installment’s casting update comes as The Social Reckoning gears up for its release this fall.

What is the Paranormal Activity 8 update?

According to Deadline, Paranormal Activity 8 will star Maya da Costa alongside Chase Yi (Mythic Quest) and Sonia Mena (Tell Me Lies). The film will mark the franchise’s return to the big screen and has been described by Paramount Pictures as a “priority theatrical release.”

Currently in the spotlight for her role as Coley in Girls Like Girls, Maya da Costa is also known for starring in FX/Hulu’s Under the Bridge, Disney’s Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, and Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender. She will next be seen in The Social Reckoning.

James Wan and Jason Blum are attached to Paranormal Activity 8 through their merged banner, Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Franchise creator Oren Peli is also returning as a producer.

However, the makers remain tight-lipped and have yet to reveal anything about Paranormal Activity 8. No character or plot details have been revealed. However, given the franchise’s long-standing use of the found-footage format, the eighth installment is expected to continue that approach, though this has not been officially confirmed.

Director Ian Tuason, without going into great detail, commented on the project to Polygon, saying, “I’m a big fan of the series, so I’m excited for other fans to get hit with some big reveals. I can’t say too much about it, but I’m lucky to be given full control. So it’ll come from me, but I am a fan, so it will be handled with care. I want to take the best out of the first three, plus other found-footage films that influenced me. I’m going to take some elements there, and I’m going to create a hybrid that’s going to define the found-footage genre.”

Paranormal Activity 8 is slated to release in theaters on May 21, 2027.
