A prequel film in a popular franchise, which features Peter Dinklage in a prominent role, will soon arrive on Netflix. Following a successful theatrical run that generated over $361 million worldwide, the 2023 movie will soon be available to a wider streaming audience.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes arrives on Netflix in July

Netflix subscribers will soon be able to watch The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes on the platform. According to What’s on Netflix, it will begin streaming on July 14, 2026.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes was directed by Francis Lawrence. It was released in the United States on November 17, 2023. The film takes place 64 years before Katniss Everdeen volunteered as a tribute. It follows Coriolanus Snow years before he became President of Panem.

The story centers on a young Snow, portrayed by Tom Blyth, as he struggles to maintain the status of his once-prominent family. His circumstances change when he is selected as a mentor for the 10th Hunger Games. Snow is assigned to Lucy Gray Baird, a tribute from District 12 played by Rachel Zegler.

As Lucy Gray attracts attention from audiences across Panem, Snow begins to see an opportunity to change both of their futures. However, as the Games progress, the relationship between the two becomes increasingly complicated.

The cast also includes Hunter Schafer as Tigris Snow, Peter Dinklage as Casca Highbottom, and Jason Schwartzman as Lucretius Flickerman, among others.

The film, which grossed over $361 million at the box office, received mixed reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes holds a 64% critics’ rating based on 242 reviews. However, audience response proved considerably stronger, recording an 89% audience score.
