Hugh Jackman Spoils The Death of Robin Hood Ending in the Most Hugh Jackman Way

Hugh Jackman seems to have cheekily spoiled the ending of The Death of Robin Hood. The actor did not do it with words, but with a montage of his own cinematic deaths.

Hugh Jackman’s death montage spoils his new Robin Hood movie

With days away from theatrical release, Hugh Jackman posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) that doubles as both a spoiler and a career retrospective. The montage cycles through several of his characters meeting their maker, with clips pulled from Les Misérables, Pan, Free Guy, The Prestige, Logan, The Fountain, and, most recently, The Sheep Detectives.

It then cuts to a scene from his upcoming movie, posing the question, “How will his story end?” The caption leaves zero room for ambiguity: “Spoiler alert … he dies. @DeathOfRH_UK + 9!”

This is done in the most Hugh Jackman way, as it feels personal, the kind of self-deprecating mischief the actor has perfected across decades of red carpets and late-night appearances. Here, the tragedy is Robin Hood, rendered not as a merry prankster in tights but as a broken man confronting a lifetime of bloodshed.

The Death of Robin Hood is a drama thriller from writer-director Michael Sarnoski, and it charts a course far from the heroic adventures of previous adaptations. The story follows an aged outlaw, critically injured and reflecting on his past life of crime and murder, while in the care of a mysterious woman.

The film is based on the 17th-century ballad Robin Hood’s Death, which tells of the outlaw’s betrayal and demise at the hands of someone he trusted. This version evokes comparisons to Jackman’s own Logan, as a weary Robin Hood attempts to leave violence behind while protecting a young girl.

The cast includes Jodie Comer as Sister Brigid, Bill Skarsgård as Little John, Murray Bartlett as The Leper, and Noah Jupe as Arthur. The Death of Robin Hood releases in theaters on June 19.
