Disturbing Stephen King Movie Taps Acclaimed Director

The next Stephen King movie adaptation has found its director. Last year Intrinsic Value Films was developing a film adaptation of Mister Yummy based on King’s short horror story from The Bazaar of Bad Dreams.

Who is directing the new Stephen King movie?

Deadline reported that Australian filmmaker Ben Young has been tapped to direct Mister Yummy. The film will adapt King’s 2015 short story about Ollie Franklin, a “charismatic resident of an assisted living facility who begins experiencing disturbing visions after the death of a fellow resident.”

“As the line between memory, regret, and the supernatural begins to blur, Ollie is forced to confront long-buried secrets from his past before time finally catches up with him,” adds the synopsis.

The Bazaar of Bad Dreams includes 20 short stories, some of which were published independently before the collection was released.

“Stephen King was one of the first authors I ever read religiously, so getting to work on something that came from his imagination is a genuine honour,” Young said in a statement. “What I love about Mister Yummy is that the horror is inseparable from the humanity. It’s creepy, moving, character-driven, and exactly the kind of movie I’d line up to see. It’s also the first feature I’ll direct that I’ve also written on since Hounds of Love, so helping shape the script into the kind of Stephen King film I’d want to experience myself has been a real joy.”

The film will be produced by Aimee Schoof, Isen Robbins, and Megan Freels Johnston of Intrinsic Value Films, joined by Josh Kesselman and Thomas Mahoney from Handsome Watson.

According to a previous report, the film is being written by Troy Blake. Deadline reports that Troy Abruzzise has joined Young in adapting the script. Young has directed Hounds of Love, Extinction, Devil’s Peak, and episodes of The Artful Dodger, Run, Scrublands, The Twelve, and more.
