The Japanese mystery-psychological horror movie Exit 8 has set its streaming release date on Shudder. The movie premiered at Cannes on May 19, 2025, before its release in Japan on August 29, 2025. Subsequently, it came out in US theaters on April 10, 2026.

The critically acclaimed horror film will arrive on the streaming platform next month.
As per When To Stream, Exit 8 will land in Shudder’s content library on July 17, 2026. Notably, the movie is the live-action adaptation of the 2023 indie video game, The Exit 8.
Genki Kawamura directed the film from a script that he co-wrote with Kentaro Hirase. The plot revolves around a protagonist, identified as “The Lost Man,” who finds himself trapped in an endlessly looping, sterile subway and must find the titular exit to escape while adhering to a set of instructions. This includes turning back when he encounters something out of the ordinary and proceeding when everything is normal.
The movie’s cast includes Kazunari Ninomiya as the Lost Man, Yamato Kochi as the Walking Man, Naru Asanuma as the Boy, Kotone Hanase as the High School Girl, Hirota Otsuka as Screaming Man on Train, Tara Nakashima as Mother on Train, and Nana Komatsu as the Woman.
Following its release, Exit 8 performed well with the critics. It currently has an impressive 93% approval rating on the review-aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes after 166 reviews. The film also holds an 86% audience score.
Chase Hutchinson of The Seattle Times wrote in his review, “Both the game and the film boast some light horror elements, but it’s the constantly tense atmosphere where the latter especially thrives. Even when nothing seems to be wrong, your mind begins to question itself, pondering if you’re not seeing something.”
Additionally, Exit 8 made $43.8 million at the global box office (via Box Office Mojo).
Kotake Create developed the original adventure video game. Besides a movie, The Exit 8 has also received manga and novelized adaptations. Toho distributed the movie in Japan, whereas Neon handled North American distributions.
