Prime Video unveils the release date and first-look photos for The Love Hypothesis

Prime Video announced on Thursday that The Love Hypothesis will premiere on the streamer on September 23. The feature adaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling viral novel stars Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman. Reinhart portrays stressed-out graduate student Olive Smith, while Bateman plays grouchy professor Dr. Adam Carlsen.

The streamer also released first-look photos of the two leads alongside the official premiere date.

A promotional video also surfaced on social media Thursday morning. It showed Reinhart grabbing a sugary coffee treat, nodding to her character’s campus habits. Reinhart takes a sip before asking, “Can I actually get sprinkles on this?” The cup displays “9.23” to tease the premiere date.

According to the official synopsis, “The Love Hypothesis follows Olive (Reinhart), a brilliant Ph.D. candidate focused on her future in academia.” The synopsis adds that Olive “impulsively kisses intimidating professor Adam Carlsen (Tom Bateman) to prove she’s moved on.” Their arrangement then “spirals into a fake relationship with rules, boundaries and a mutually beneficial agreement.”

The synopsis further states that “when their arrangement begins to blur the lines between performance and reality, Olive is forced to test her most daunting hypothesis yet: that love might actually be worth the risk.” Rachel Marsh and Nicholas Duvernay portray Olive’s best friend Ahn and her crush Jeremy, respectively.

Jaboukie Young-White and Arty Froushan join the cast alongside Reinhart, Bateman, Marsh and Duvernay. Claire Scanlon serves as director, while Sarah Rothschild penned the screenplay. Additionally, Prime Video plans to spotlight the film at its immersive fan event, Obsessed Fest, later this month.
