Nick Jonas recently opened up about a scary flight with Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell. During an appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark, the singer recalled the frightening incident.
Nick Jonas recalls ‘frightening’ flight experience with Glen Powell
Nick Jonas and Glen Powell were in Las Vegas traveling with several other friends. However, things quickly went wrong. According to Jonas, the plane experienced a power issue shortly after takeoff. He said, “So this is almost 10 years ago, probably.”
“We were in Vegas together with a group of friends, and on the way home, the plane basically took off and then I don’t know the technical term for it but there was an issue with the power. Which is never a good thing, obviously.”
He also joked about Powell’s aviation experience at the time. “And this is pre-Top Gun: Maverick Glen Powell, so he was in flight training, but he couldn’t have landed the plane like he can now. He was just regular old Glen Powell. So you know, had this happened a couple weeks ago, different story.”
Fortunately, the flight landed safely. He added, “Yeah, it was a frightening experience, but we were okay.” He said he didn’t fully understand how serious the situation was until after landing.
Jonas revealed that one of the pilot was visibly emotional. “One of them was crying when we landed,” he said. That moment changed his perspective on the incident. “I was thinking, ‘Okay, maybe it wasn’t as bad as I sort of felt like it was.’ And then I saw him crying. I was like, ‘Oh no, this was bad.'”
He also noticed concern among the flight attendants during the ordeal. “It was one of those experiences you never forget,” he said. Looking back, Jonas believes the incident brought him and Powell closer together. “And you know, Glen’s the best. I think from that moment on, we’ve just built a great friendship,” he said.
Nearly a decade later, he still remembers the scary flight. Today, both stars stay busy. Jonas recently appeared in Power Ballad with Paul Rudd. He is also preparing for Jumanji: Open World, which arrives on December 25.
Powell has projects ahead too. He will star in The Great Beyond, which features Jenna Ortega, Emma Mackey, and Samuel L. Jackson. It will be released later this year.
