The Odyssey popcorn bucket has been revealed, and its unexpected design has drawn attention online. Accordingly, fans have shared their thoughts about it on social media.
The Odyssey fans react to its IMAX popcorn bucket
The Odyssey took an unconventional approach when it came to the design of its popcorn bucket. Instead of modeling after the lead characters or any of the mythological elements in the film, it was themed after an IMAX camera. This references the fact that the action-adventure epic was shot entirely on IMAX film.
The item received a plethora of reactions from fans online. One user wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Christopher Nolan really said ‘no Greek helmet, no Trojan horse, just pure large, format film gear’ and I’m here for it. The commitment to practical filmmaking is insane.”
Meanwhile, another user shared a GIF of a person near the beach filming the ocean, seemingly signifying their interest in filmmaking.
Yet another remarked, “This is peak Nolan. Even the snacks gotta be shot on IMAX.” One declared it the reigning popcorn bucket, posting, “One popcorn bucket to rule them all!” Finally, another added, “A popcorn bucket shaped like an IMAX camera is actually insane.”
Here are some more reactions:
According to the official IMAX website, the design is inspired by the IMAX 15/65mm camera that Christopher Nolan, who has called it “the Gold Standard,” used to shoot The Dark Knight, Interstellar, and The Odyssey. It includes a viewfinder, which, when lit up, reveals a scene from the upcoming feature in IMAX’s exclusive 1.43:1 expanded aspect ratio.
The bucket costs $50 but remains sold out at the time of writing. It will start shipping on July 3, 2026, 14 days before the movie hits theaters.
The Odyssey premieres on July 17, 2026. In addition to directing, Nolan wrote the screenplay, adapting Homer’s eponymous ancient Greek epic. He also co-produced with his wife, Emma Thomas, via their production banner, Syncopy.
