An episode of The Rookie Season 8 will feature the cast of a Dropout show
ABC will air a Season 8 episode of The Rookie featuring the cast of Dropout’s Game Changer. The episode, titled Fun and Games, is Season 8, Episode 9 and premieres March 2 at 10 p.m. ET. The installment brings the Nathan Fillion-led police procedural into a crossover with the independent comedy streaming platform Dropout.
Nathan Fillion stars as John Nolan alongside Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper, Lisseth Chavez as Celina Juarez and Deric Augustine as Miles Penn. Sam Reich, CEO of Dropout and host of Game Changer, joins the episode with Vic Michaelis, Jacob Wysocki, Zac Oyama and Anna Garcia. The production team filmed part of the episode at Dropout’s studios in Los Angeles.
ABC’s official logline states: “Harper and Miles feel the weight of their recent mistakes, while Harper is tasked with training Miles. Nolan and Celina are dispatched to a robbery call at the Dropout TV Studios where Nolan encounters a familiar face.” The plot follows a robbery investigation that takes officers to the Game Changer set.
Hulu will stream the episode the day after ABC airs it. Dropout rebranded from CollegeHumor in 2024. It has surpassed 1 million paid subscribers and expanded its production, development and marketing teams. The platform streams Game Changer, Dimension 20, Make Some Noise and Very Important People. Dropout recently licensed the UK comedy Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared as its first acquired series.
The Rookie previously incorporated a crossover during Season 2 with American Idol in the episode The Overnight. Created by Alexi Hawley, the series debuted on October 16, 2018, and continues its eighth season with this March broadcast.
