Celebrity chef Guy Fieri recently spoke about a serious injury that made him reflect on how much people often take their bodies for granted. In November, Fieri revealed that he had suffered a serious fall. He has now shared more details about what happened and how it affected him both physically and mentally.
Guy Fieri talks fall he sustained while filming Flavortown Food Fight series
Guy Fieri, the celebrity chef known for hosting several television series on the Food Network, revealed in November that he suffered a “nasty fall.” The accident initially left him in a wheelchair and later on crutches. The recovery process was lengthy, but Fieri has since moved past it.
However, the 58-year-old recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about how the injury and recovery affected him.
“I was in the middle of filming a new show that we’re doing for Food Network called Flavortown Food Fight, where I’m the mayor, go figure,” Fieri said. “We had a rainy week in Northern California, and I was walking out of my trailer, and my one foot slipped and went all the way down the stairs, and the right leg got caught on the threshold of the door. So I’m kind of halfway doing the splits going down the stairs, about a three-foot drop, and then it just took that leg and compressed it, snapped my quad muscle in the center of my leg in half. Literally in half.”
The injury forced Fieri to use a wheelchair and later crutches, and it also required surgery. “It does give you appreciation for being healthy. You look at people who have disabilities and realize we take a lot of things for granted. Folks that are on crutches and stuff, you know, the next time you see somebody on crutches, maybe clear a little bit of a path. Open the door for them,” he said.
The experience left him grateful for the health and mobility he still has. “I’m at the point now where I just take every day with appreciation,” Fieri added.
