Netflix‘s TV library expands with the addition of one of TNT’s highest-rated crime TV shows starring Academy Award winner Regina King and The Walking Dead vet Michael Cudlitz.
As of today, all five seasons of TNT’s Southland series are now available to stream on Netflix, more than a decade after the network decided to cancel the show.
What do we know about TNT’s hit crime series?
Southland was written and created by Ann Biderman. In the show, King played the role of Detective Lydia Adams of the West Bureau Detectives, while Cudlitz played the character of police officer John Cooper. The main cast also includes Ben McKenzie, Shawn Hatosy, C. Thomas Howell, Kevin Alejandro, Tom Everett Scott, Roxana Brusso, Emily Bergl, and Hedy Burress.
Throughout its five-season run, it featured several notable guest stars such as Lucy Liu, Carl Lumbly, Chad Michael Murray, and Lou Diamond Phillips. Since its debut, the show has maintained its high approval rating of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Veteran Los Angeles cop John Cooper is assigned to train rookie Ben Sherman, who finds himself questioning whether he has the right stuff to be a police officer after witnessing Cooper’s no-nonsense approach,” reads the show’s official synopsis. “Other members of the police team include Detective Lydia Adams, who is her mother’s primary caregiver away from the office; her partner, Russell Clarke, an unhappily married father of three; Detective Daniel ‘Sal’ Salinger, who oversees gang detectives Nate Moretta and Sammy Bryant; and patrol officer Chickie Brown, a single mother who dreams of joining the SWAT team.”
