New report says actor Mike Smith has been charged with sexual assault
Mike Smith, who plays Bubbles on the Canadian mockumentary series Trailer Park Boys, faces a sexual assault charge, according to court documents obtained by CBC News. Authorities in Halifax, Nova Scotia, charged the 53-year-old actor on October 2 in connection with an alleged incident that occurred on December 30, 2017, in Dartmouth. The court has not yet proven the allegations.
Court records state that a judge ordered Smith not to contact the alleged victim, whose identity remains protected under a publication ban. The order also prohibits him from approaching the complainant’s home, workplace, or school. Smith will appear before the Nova Scotia Provincial Court in Halifax on November 10.
In a statement to CBC and other outlets, Trailer Park Boys Inc. confirmed Smith had “stepped away” from his role as managing director amid the proceedings. The company stated, “We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith dating back to 2017 and take such matters seriously. We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case.”
Barry Dunn, Robb Wells, John Paul Tremblay, and Mike Clattenburg created The Trailer Park Boys franchise in 2001. The series became a global cult hit after streaming on Netflix. The team finished filming Season 13 earlier this year, and it will premiere in April 2026.
Los Angeles police arrested Smith in 2016 for misdemeanor domestic battery, but authorities later dropped the charges due to a “lack of sufficient evidence.” At the time, Smith and the alleged victim released a joint statement denying that the incident had occurred.
