NCIS: Origins Season 2 Premiere Reveals What Happened to Gibbs & Lala’s Relationship

The NCIS: Origins’ Season 2 premiere ended the suspense pretty quickly when it revealed Lala’s fate in the car crash that ended the previous season on a cliffhanger. In Season 2, Lala (Mariel Molino) makes it out alive and is recovering. However, it seems like Gibbs and her relationship didn’t survive the catastrophe.

Is Gibbs still involved with Lala in NCIS: Origins Season 2 Episode 1

The premiere episode started on an emotional note with Gibbs’s (Austin Stowell) voiceover that goes as “without Lala, the days went by slow. Without her, the team wasn’t what it used to be.… The job wasn’t right without her, and home wasn’t much better.”

Gibbs’ voiceover shed light on Lala’s injuries, which include a collapsed lung, traumatic brain injury, and crushed left thigh muscle. Lala, being the fighter she is, is working her way towards a much-needed speedy recovery.

Much to the dismay of the fans shipping them, Gibbs seems to have started a new chapter with Diane, who’s oblivious to his & Lala’s romantic past. He has been avoiding Lala since his hospital visit, which was uncomfortable and awkward to say the least. While she told Gibbs that she was happy for him and Diane, Lala, too, has set up her boundaries to avoid more heartbreak. She said a curt no to Gibbs when he offered to get her a rolling chair for the dark room.

In conversation with Mary Jo (Tyla Abercrumbie), Randy (Caleb Foote) gave his two cents on Lala and Gibbs’ relationship. Stating how Gibbs’ tragic experience with Lala can trigger his past trauma of losing his wife and daughter, dating Diane is a safer choice to maintain his sanity.

As the episode nears its end, it becomes evident that Lala and Gibbs’ feelings for each other are far from over. This leads to an argument during which Lala complains about Gibbs babying her. Consoling Lala, Mary Jo explains that Gibbs is only dating Diane because he can’t stand the thought of losing her.
