Task continues to dive into various shocking twists and turns, while exploring complex themes, and Episode 5 has revealed who the Dark Hearts mole in the FBI was — bringing a big change to the narrative moving forward.
Helmed by Brad Ingelsby, the story is set against the backdrop of a working-class society in Philadelphia. It follows Tom Brandis, a priest-turned-FBI agent who leads a task force in stopping a string of robberies — spearheaded by Robbie Prendergrast, an unassuming family man. Tom and Robbie also deal with various lingering issues in their personal life.
So, who is the mole in Task Episode 5? Here’s everything you need to know.

Task Episode 5 shows Anthony Grasso as the mole in Tom Brandis’ team
Task Episode 5 reveals that Anthony Grasso is the mole in Tom Brandis’ team working for the Dark Hearts. Grasso’s status as a mole is revealed when he meets with Jayson to get Ray’s phone back. Grasso was the mole who had given Ray’s phone to the Dark Hearts, who gave him a fake phone, thus alerting the latter to the FBI’s sting operation to capture Cliff, allowing them to foil it — and lure Cliff to a trap, where he is suffocated to death by Jayson.
It is implied that Grasso has been working for the Dark Hearts for some time before joining Tom’s team. The revelation of Grasso as a mole finally confirms the long-running theory fans had about the same. This theory has been running since Episode 3, where Grasso acted pretty cagey and suspicious.
Grasso’s shady behavior — accentuated by how he didn’t reveal much about himself — was displayed in two instances. One was him bailing on his date with Lizzie without explaining why. The other was him delivering a speech where he was cynical towards the police force.
Elsewhere, Task Episode 5 features the first interaction between Mark Ruffalo’s Tom Brandis and Tom Pelphrey’s Robbie Prendergrast, after a build-up of four episodes. Robbie takes Tom hostage and forces him to drive off. During their drive, the pair has a deep conversation about struggles in their respective lives. The episode ends with them holding each other at gunpoint.
Task airs new episodes every Sunday on HBO at 9 p.m. Eastern Time (ET).
