No, Rena Sofer’s Lois Is Not Leaving General Hospital

Wondering why rumors claimed Rena Sofer was leaving General Hospital? Her recent move to New York sparked online speculation about her future on the show. But the facts tell a different story.

Here’s what’s really going on with Sofer, her role as Lois, and how commuting plans clarified the false exit claims.

Rumors of Rena Sofer’s Lois leaving General Hospital debunked

Recent speculation surrounding Rena Sofer’s departure from General Hospital has been officially debunked.

Despite announcing her move to New York with husband Sanford Bookstaver, Sofer is not leaving the show. Soap Opera Digest confirmed that she remains on recurring status as Lois Cerullo and has already scheduled dates to film in Los Angeles within the next month.

Sofer joined the General Hospital in 1993 as Lois Cerullo, a Brooklyn-born music manager. She earned a Daytime Emmy in 1995 for Outstanding Supporting Actress and a Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Younger Lead Actress. After departing the series in 1996, Sofer returned in 2023 and has remained a recurring character since. Prior to her return to GH, she portrayed Quinn Fuller on The Bold and the Beautiful from 2013 to 2022.

Commuting arrangements for cast members living outside California are not uncommon. Kirsten Storms (Maxie) is relocating to Nashville and will also commute to the GH set after settling in. Rick Hearst (Ric) regularly travels from New Jersey for his appearances. A source close to Sofer stated, “This is no different.”

In the ongoing storyline, Lois faces backlash from her daughter, Brook Lynn, after a major revelation. It was disclosed in May that Lois had placed Brook Lynn’s baby, fathered by Dante, with close family friends instead of an adoption agency. The boy, now known as Gio Palmieri, has since discovered his true identity, leaving Gio, Brook Lynn, and Dante struggling to process the emotional aftermath.

Despite the online rumors triggered by Sofer’s cross-country move, General Hospital has confirmed her continued involvement in upcoming episodes as the Lois storyline continues to unfold.
