Adam Sandler on Taylor Swift: ‘She’s Done a Lot for Our Planet’

Adam Sandler recently praised Taylor Swift at the Happy Gilmore 2 premiere. He also discussed whether he had planned to include the pop sensation in the film, which features her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, in a supporting role. The upcoming sports comedy — a direct sequel to 1996’s Happy Gilmore — launches on Netflix later this week. In addition to having acted in the film, Sandler also co-wrote and co-produced it.

Adam Sandler recently interacted with ExtraTV at the Happy Gilmore 2 premiere in New York City. During the interview, the comedian was asked about Travis Kelce’s casting in the film and if his daughters — Sadie and Sunny, who are big Taylor Swift fans — were behind the Kansas City Chiefs tight-end’s inclusion.

The Uncut Gems actor responded, “Yeah, they love Taylor. I love Taylor.” The 58-year-old mentioned that Kelce was “nice enough” and that he “wanted to do something” for the film. Sandler subsequently wrote a part for the NFL player in the film, recalling that when Kelce agreed to it, his daughters and wife, Jackie Sandler, became “very excited.”

“Everybody loves her,” Sandler added about Swift. The interviewer then asked the Primetime Emmy Award nominee if there were discussions to include the singer in the film.

Sandler responded, “We didn’t want to bother Taylor. We just let Taylor entertain the world like she does.” The Saturday Night Live alum added that he listened to “All Too Well” with his daughters “three times in a row.”

“And she’s done a lot for our planet. So we love her,” he continued.

In a separate interview, Adam Sandler joked that he would be a “professional Swiftie” if he didn’t pursue an acting career.

He added, “Just be going on, just screaming ‘Taylor! I love you, you know?’ and then trying to get a glimpse at Travis. That’s it.” The interviewer suggested that the 50 First Dates actor could sell Taylor Swift merchandise, an idea that he embraced. In response, Julie Bowen, Sandler’s Happy Gilmore co-star — who was also present in the interview — claimed that if she saw him selling a “bedazzled Swiftie merch t-shirt” he made himself, she would “pay all the money in the world” for it. Responding to Bowen’s comments, Sandler admitted he would not be good at making T-shirts, saying he was “unartistic.”
