J. Eddie Peck, who plays Cole on The Young and the Restless, recently spoke about his exit from the show and shared his expectations for his character’s relationship with Victoria before his death. For those unfamiliar, Cole died from complications of Legionnaires’ disease. During his last moments, he reminisced about good memories with Claire and Victoria, before bidding goodbye. As Peck has already made his exit, here’s what he had to say about Cole’s conclusion on the soap opera.
J. Eddie Peck thought Cole and Victoria would be part of The Young and the Restless’ summer storyline
J. Eddie Peck recently took to Instagram to share a video, where he extended his thanks to fans for their support and love for Cole. He also shared a few thoughts about his character’s exit. He explained that he had not thought that Cole was about to die. He thought that his illness would take an interesting turn, where his character and Victoria could return to their house and improve their strained relationship.
He said, “Josh Griffith, our executive producer, head writer… called me up a couple of nights before my last day, and he said, ‘Hey, J. Eddie, you probably know where this cold is going. Well, in fact, I really didn’t know where it was going. I was thinking Cole was going to get sick, and the cough was bad, and he was going to go back to the house with Victoria, and she would nurse him back to health, and it’s going to deepen the relationship.”
He also acknowledged that fans were smart enough to guess about the demise storyline intended for Cole. “Lo and behold, the fans and everyone were much smarter than me. Maybe it was just my positive thinking,” he added.
Furthermore, he mentioned that earlier, the show’s plan for his character was to keep him for a shorter time. However, he was kept eventually as the makers loved his character and his on-screen dynamic with Victoria.
