David Corenswet reveals how he balanced being a new dad and filming Superman
During a recent interview with ET Online, David Corenswet was asked how he managed the responsibilities of new fatherhood while simultaneously taking on one of the biggest roles of his career: playing Superman. In response, the actor gave full credit to his wife, Julia Warner.
Corenswet said, “My wife gets all the credit.” He explained that with 12-hour workdays, most of the parenting duties fell on his wife. Co-star Nicholas Hoult joined in with a joke, saying, “She was wearing those boots,” to which Corenswet laughed and agreed. Hoult continued, “Making you look good.”
Corenswet added that the experience of parenting helped him stay grounded while playing the role of Superman. He said, “It’s good Superman energy to be, you know? To spend all day flying through the sky and fighting bad guys and then come home and get thrown up on and, you know, change diapers.” The actor added, “It’s good balance.” Rachel Brosnahan, who plays Lois Lane, joined the moment by adding, “To keep him humble, you know.”
Corenswet has been married to Julia Warner for over two years. He had earlier shared with PEOPLE that they found out they were expecting just days after he learned he would be testing for the role of Superman in James Gunn’s film. “She told me that she was pregnant two days after I found out I was going to screen test for Superman,” he recalled.
He then explained that during the early months of the pregnancy, the couple chose to keep the news private. The actor added, “We had these two quite huge secrets that we just had between the two of us. And that was intense. For a period, we had just each other for these two huge things.”
