Why J Kills Morgan in Animal Kingdom

Like any gripping crime drama, Animal Kingdom is replete with some shocking and gritty moments, but few are as cold-blooded as J killing Morgan. Developed by Jonathan Lisco, this series follows the criminal operations of the Cody family under the leadership of Janine “Smurf” Cody. Throughout the series, her grandson Joshua “J” Cody, played by Finn Cole, has emerged as a strategic and ruthless player in the game, which was especially highlighted when he killed Smurf’s lawyer, Morgan.

So, here’s everything you need to know about why J killed Morgan in Animal Kingdom.

Why does J kill Morgan in Animal Kingdom Season 3?

Joshua “J” Cody killed Morgan Wilson to cover up his theft attempts of Smurf’s properties.

One of the most pivotal moments in the drama was Smurf handing over the power of attorney to her grandson J at the end of Season 2. She made this decision after realizing that Baz was no longer a reliable candidate and could potentially cause more damage.

Cut to Season 3 when Smurf is in jail, J realizes that she could be away for a while. He uses this opportunity to steal three of Smurf’s properties in order to get some money for himself. Smurf’s lawyer, Morgan, gets wind of the situation when J tries to frame her for the theft. Although Smurf does confront Morgan about it, the lawyer insists it wasn’t her and soon suspects J’s involvement.

Realizing that Morgan is the only obstacle in his plan, J wastes no time in eliminating her. He kidnaps her while she is swimming in the ocean and takes her out into the open sea. J cuts off her leg and leaves her for dead, cementing the scene as one of the most brutal in the show. Morgan’s murder is a testament to how cold and lethal J can be. It also established that J has a significant piece on the board, as he aims to take over Smurf’s criminal empire.
