Denis Villeneuve Could See Zendaya Directing Movies in the Future

Denis Villeneuve has worked with a ton of great actors throughout his career in Hollywood, but recently singled out one as someone who he could see working behind the camera in the future.

During a recent episode of The Director’s Cut podcast between Steven Spielberg and Villeneuve, Spielberg asked if Villeneuve worked with anyone on the set of Dune: Part Two that he thinks could one day become a filmmaker. Villeneuve was quick to single out one specific person who was always listening on set.

“The truth … there’s someone that spent a lot of time behind the camera listening, Zendaya,” Villeneuve said. “She’s so clever, but shows she’s brilliant in her strong presence, and she was always on set even when she was not shooting. Just sitting between [cinematographer] Greg [Fraser] and I listening, listening and listening. So I would not be surprised that one day we learn that she wants to go behind [the camera].”

Zendaya has worked with a handful of great directors

Zendaya is no stranger to working with a ton of great directors, and has also worked as a producer on films, including on 2021’s Malcolm & Marie, a film she produced alongside John David Washington, Scott Mescudi, Sam Levinson, Ashley Levinson, and Kevin Turen.

While fans wait for the potential future of Zendaya’s filmmaker career, they can see her next in 2024’s Challengers, which she also produced and stars in alongside Josh O’Connor, Mike Faist, and Jake Jensen.
