Wizards of Waverly Place Sequel Show Gets Series Order

After originally getting a pilot order, the upcoming Wizards of Waverly Place sequel show has officially gotten a series order from Disney.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel series has revealed a formal series order from Disney and will debut later this year on both Disney+ and on the Disney Channel. Production on the follow-up is set to start in Los Angeles in April and, as previously announced, will feature returning cast members Selena Gomez and David Henrie as they reprise their roles as Alex and Justin Russo, with Gomez being a guest star for the premiere. Both Gomez and Henrie will also be executive producing the show.

“Wizards of Waverly Place captivated hearts with its spellbinding adventures and big laughs, creating unforgettable memories for kids and families everywhere,” Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television stated. “We can’t wait to step back into the magical world of Wizards, inviting both longtime fans and a new generation to experience the enchantment alongside Selena, David and our incredible cast and crew.”

The rest of the cast of the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel series includes Max Matenko, Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele, and Mimi Gianopulos. The pilot was written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas and will be directed by Andy Fickman, who will helm further episodes throughout the series.

Wizards of Waverly Place was a fantasy teen sitcom that originally aired on the Disney Channel for four seasons between 2007 and 2012. The series followed Selena Gomez’s Alex Russo, a teenage wizard living in New York City and training their magical powers alongside her siblings Justin (David Henrie) and Max (Jake T. Austin).
