Kirsten Dunst Claims Filming Civil War Gave Her ‘PTSD’ for 2 Weeks

During a recent interview with Marie Claire, Oscar nominee Kirsten Dunst opened up about her experience filming A24’s upcoming dystopian thriller Civil War, where portray the role of photojournalist Lee Smith.

Dunst shared that the production of Civil War “shook me [her] to my [core],” which led her to develop “PTSD for a good two weeks” after she was done filming.

“I remember hearing them practice an explosion. We were in the hair and makeup trailer, which was very far away from set, and the whole trailer shook.” She recalled. “There’s so much gunfire, and then you look at the news and it’s a school shooting again.”

What to expect in Civil War?

Civil War is written and directed by Alex Garland (28 Days Later). It stars Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny, Jesse Plemons, Nick Offerman, Karl Glusman, Sonoya Mizuno, and Jonica T. Gibbs. It is produced by Gregory Goodman, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich.

“In the near future, a team of journalists travel across the United States during a rapidly escalating civil war that has engulfed the entire nation, struggling to survive during a near-future where the government has become a dystopian dictatorship and partisan extremist militias regularly commit political violence,” the synopsis reads.

Civil Wars arrives in theaters on April 12.
