Joel McHale Gives Community Movie Update, Filming To Work Around Donald Glover’s Schedule

Series star Joel McHale has revealed that the Community movie will be filmed this year, with shooting set to “work around” Donald Glover‘s schedule.

Deadline spoke with McHale about the upcoming film while discussing the Fox sitcom Animal Control. The actor revealed that he’d be “shocked” if the Community movie wasn’t filmed this year and that it is working around the schedule of Donald Glover, who played Troy Barnes in the NBC comedy series.

“But I really do think it’s happening this year, and probably next week. It’s basically working around Donald’s schedule,” McHale stated.

McHale also joked about the plot of the Community movie, explaining that though he hasn’t read the script, the plot has the characters go to “the center of the Earth,” comparing it to the 2003 film The Core.

Filming on the Community movie was previously delayed as a result of last year’s entertainment industry strikes, with McHale having previously revealed a production date window for the film just last December.

How many seasons did Community run for?

Community concluded its acclaimed six-season run in 2015 after jumping across multiple networks. The series has since gained further popularity through streaming services like Netflix, leading to a Zoom cast reunion that featured the entire main cast outside of Chevy Chase taking place in 2020.
