Ted Lasso Star Joins the Cast of Brad Pitt and Apple’s F1 Movie

Ted Lasso’s Sarah Niles has joined the cast of Brad Pitt and Apple Studios’ upcoming F1 movie.

Per Deadline, Niles has been cast as Damson Idris’ character’s mother in Apple Studio’s untitled F1 film. The movie will see Pitt play a “former driver returning to the sport with fictional team APXGP,” while Idris is playing his teammate.

Along with Pitt, Idris, and Niles, the movie stars  Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, and Tobias Menzies.

What else do we know about the new F1 movie?

The movie is being directed by Joseph Kosinski, who previously made 2010’s Tron: Legacy, 2013’s Oblivion, 2017’s Only the Brave, 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick, and 2022’s Spiderhead. The script comes from Ehren Kruger.

Pitt and Kosinski are producing the movie alongside Jerry Bruckheimer, Dede Gardner, Lewis Hamilton, Jeremy Kleiner, and Chad Oman.

Pitt previously told Sky Sports, via Variety, in July 2023 that he’s playing “a guy who raced in the 1990s… who has a horrible crash, craps out and disappears, then he’s racing in other disciplines. His friend, played by Javier Bardem, he’s a team owner, contacts him. They’re a last-place team, they’re 21-22 on the grid, they’ve never scored a point. But they have a young phenom, played by Damson Idris, and they bring me in as kind of a Hail Mary and hijinks ensue. Tell you what’s amazing about it — there are cameras mounted all over the car — you’ve never seen speed, you’ve never seen just the G-forces like this. It’s really, really exciting.”

Niles is known for playing Sharon Fieldstone in the second and third seasons of Apple Studios’ Ted Lasso. She also portrayed Rosemary in Netflix’s The Sandman and has appeared in other projects such as 2008’s Beautiful People, 2015’s Catastrophe, 2020’s I May Destroy You, and 2022’s This is Christmas.

A release date for the new F1 movie has not yet been announced.
